Help keep used street sweeper brushes out of landfills by “repurposing” them as cattle back scratchers

These nearly indestructible stiff bristled brooms from street sweeper brushes make great backscratchers for livestock. The combination of the engineered polypropylene bristles and the steel center create a long after-life for this tube broom turned scratching post, whether being used for horses, cows, goats, or pigs. Keep the sweeper brushes in your barn, corral, or pasture to prevent animals from tearing or damaging fences.

Q: How big are the brushes?

A: Most brushes are 60”-66” tall and about 18”-20” in diameter just depending on how long they were used on the street sweepers before they were retired.

Q: How do you mount a street sweeper brush?

A: Well, that is really up to you and your creative engineering. There is an 8” diameter steel core the runs through the brush that must people utilize in mounting the street sweeper brush.

NOTE: While we call these repurposed street sweeper brushes, others may call them reclaimed street sweeper brushes. Funny, we’ve also heard them being called recycled street sweeper brushes. Then there are those who refer to them as scrap street sweeper brushes, seconded street sweeper brushes, junk street sweeper brushes …or maybe even salvaged street sweeper brushes! Remember, whatever “green” or sustainable phrase you want to use regarding street sweeper brushes, we’ve got it.
