Demolition Project?  Q:  Do you know of a good, solid commercial/industrial structure rumored to be set for demolition that you think would be a good candidate for "repurposing" instead?  If yes, Email Us Details>>  Remember, re-use/"repurposing" is the most sustainable option for materials, equipment, ANDbuildings!
Phone Call.  We got a crazy phone call yesterday.  A guy called who has a drill pipe stuck down hole on a drilling rig in Colorado.  He is looking for some cheap, organic lubricate (he was thinking vegetable oil) to help lubricate the pipe so they can pull it out.  He figures he needs about 1,200 gallons.  NOTE: Whatever fluid he uses has to be  pre-approved by the Oil & Gas Commission for environmental soundness.  Q: Any ideas for a natural, "repurposing" lubricant?  Submit Ideas>>

Our Customers.  We are going to start giving you some insights and profiles of some of our "whales" here at repurposedMATERIALS.  (Yes, we're "repurposing" the phrase from Las Vegas where a casino refers to their big, frequent customers as "whales".)  Q: BTW, do you have a better name we should use for our large scale "repurposers" rather than "whales"?  EMail Alternate Titles>>

Insight:  "I'm a big 'repurposed' material implementer, be it stuff I have left over here, drag home, or buy. I'm also very particular, it has to work and look as good as or better than new to meet my standard.  'repurposing' doesn't mean a lower standard." Bruce in California  (Bruce has a big dairy operation in California and is a great customer of ours.)  Bruce, we appreciate your business!

repurposingHISTORY.  Damon just returned from a trip to Italy.  While on a tour of an olive farm in Tuscany, he learned that after WWII many enterprising olive farmers "repurposed" old parachutes left behind by Allied soldiers.  The old parachutes, with their hole in the middle, worked ideally to use as a skirt under the trees (think Christmas tree skirt) to collect all the olives as they were picked.  While the WWII parachutes have long ago vanished, the parachutes were such a hit that still today they refer to the skirts as "parachutes".

Q: Like this WWII-era "repurpose", do you know of other historical "repurposes"?

repurposedINQUIRY:  "I am contacting you about potentially acquiring samples of billboard vinyl for a project we are working on here at Columbia University.  I am emailing on behalf of a class of graduate architecture students who are constructing an installation for New York City's Governor's Island this summer. One of the components of this structure is a faceted membrane that we are looking to test materials for, and billboard vinyl seems like a great opportunity for a material that is both light, strong, and recycled." - Jamie

Our Customers.  Cool one here - We sold three pieces of gym floor to Zach who works in the corporate office at Carhartt. Big, big clothing retailer as I’m sure you know. He came across our website while looking for ways to “repurpose” wood into an office desk. So three employees in the corporate building will be using our wood to make desks. Pretty cool!  Zach, We appreciate your business!

Real Estate.  One way entrepreneurs are "repurposing" old, abandoned salt mines is by turning them into document storage facilities.

*A.C.E. (Attributes, Characteristics, Engineering).  What is naturally present underground?  Stable temperature, stable humidity, security, etc.  These are the very same A.C.E. that developers spend $100's per SF to construct in new buildings above ground when, funny enough, they are already naturally present in abandoned underground mines.

* A.C.E.  This acronym stands for AttributesCharacteristicsEngineering.  We use this acronym to tell you a little about a used material and what qualities it has in hopes that someone can find a "repurpose" for it.  Asked another way...what did the material do in it's 1st life that might help identify a very different, 2nd life for it?
