re·pur·posed·MA·TE·RI·ALS (noun) - byproducts and waste that have value "as is" to a 2nd, unrelated industry.  WATCH "repurposing" Video Introduction>>
Today's Edition… ( Denver | Chicago | Atlanta | Dallas | Philadelphia

ourSTORY:  BEFORE:  Vail Ski Resort had 3,000' of steel "winch cat" cable that was obsolete for their application.  Vail is a company obviously very focused on sustainability.  Obviously, the steel cable could have simply been sent to a metal recycler, but Vail understands the waste hierarchy and that re-use is a higher and better use than recycling. AFTER: Joe Egan purchased the cable to put on his dredging machine.  "The steel cable is working fine so far; for our 'repurpose' it is performing as well as new cable on our dredge." Joe Egan in Minnesota.  I'm sure Joe, too, found a great way to invest the money that he saved buying used rather than buying new!  (This story was featured in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune Read Article >>

repurposedPROJECT:  repurposedMATERIALS, and our Texas ocean shipping terminal customer, were featured in InlandPort magazine for their great "repurpose" of conveyor belt.  At their transload shipping facility, they bring in big tanker cars full of liquids that they transload onto ships.  Management was concerned about the possibility of a tanker car someday leaking, and then the liquids leaching out into the soil.  So, they wanted to put down some kind of a liner between the tracks to prevent any seepage into the soil in case of a leak.  They chose to "repurpose" conveyor belting as their liner.

"They sell that material to put under pond liners so the liner doesn't get punctured.  Why not just roll out a bunch of this old turf.  That would make a great protective underlayment to protect the liner material." - Adam

"Any 'green', sustainability-minded company or commercial property owner ought to jump at your retired turf.  They would save a ton over mowing idle pieces of property and the water savings would be tremendous!" - Jean Williams inNevada

The Rest of the Story.  BEFORE:  A restaurant chain wanted to keep their giant, oversize menu out of the landfill at the conclusion of their event marketing campaign.  They asked if we could help!  Of course they asked us, what other company in America is dumb enough to try to keep a 7' x 11' interactive book out of the dump...LOL!!!  AFTER:  We are happy to report that Orr Family Farms in Oklahoma City are going to give the menu a 2nd Life.  They are going to re-skin the book with the anti-bullying character Mr Spookley and install it in their fall festival at OKC's largest corn maze and pumpkin patch venue.  Tom, we appreciate your business and your creativity!  AND:  To quote the late/great Paul Harvey..."And, now, you know the rest of the story!"

* A.C.E.  This acronym stands for AttributesCharacteristicsEngineering.  We use this acronym to tell you a little about a used material and what qualities it has in hopes that someone can find a "repurpose" for it.  Asked another way...what did the material do in it's 1st life that might help identify a very different, 2nd life for it?
