repurposingHISTORY.  Damon just returned from a trip to Italy.  While on a tour of an olive farm in Tuscany, he learned that after WWII many enterprising olive farmers "repurposed" old parachutes left behind by Allied soldiers.  The old parachutes, with their hole in the middle, worked ideally to use as a skirt under the trees (think Christmas tree skirt) to collect all the olives as they were picked.  While the WWII parachutes have long ago vanished, the parachutes were such a hit that still today they refer to the skirts as "parachutes".

Q: Like this WWII-era "repurpose", do you know of other historical "repurposes"?

He came across our website while looking for ways to “repurpose” wood into an office desk. So three employees in the corporate building will be using our wood to make desks. Pretty cool!  Zach, We appreciate your business!

Last week I picked up some of the truck bed planks. I planed them down to remove the paint and whatever else might be on the surface. I added holes, stained, and sealed it. I used some steel EMT conduit that I had in the garage to put them together as bedroom shelving."

INTERESTING FACT:  Many think that "repurposing" is for those of the lower income demographic.  To the contrary, as Nathan's home squash court attests, we have many very high net worth and business owners/executives as customers and supporters!  Hmmm...might there be a correlation between frugality and net worth!?!

"repurpose" #1:  "Your old conveyor belt has worked superbly lining the bottoms of our articulated dump truck beds and the tops of our trailer decks.  Using a cheap used material as a wear part on an expensive piece of equipment makes a lot of sense to me!  Oh, and the rubber is a great sound dampener, too!" - Bill Andrews, dirt contractor in Ohio

Psst!...MISCONCEPTION.  A lot of people incorrectly assume the prototypical "repurposer"/re-user is lower income.  That couldn't be farther from the truth.  In fact, our customer base is loaded with high net worth people and companies.  (Eg: see the Porsche and Cadillac in our parking lot.)   Psst...a little secret, they are high net worth because they save $$$ buying used materials to solve problems rather than buying new!!!

* A.C.E.  This acronym stands for AttributesCharacteristicsEngineering.  We use this acronym to tell you a little about a used material and what qualities it has in hopes that someone can find a "repurpose" for it.  Asked another way...what did the material do in it's 1st life that might help identify a very different, 2nd life for it?
