substitutionMENTALITY:  As "repurposers", we're always looking at what used material could be substituted for a new, purpose built product.  Here is an example of "substitutionary thinking".  This ad in Stormwater magazine shows storm water storage modules product available.  These are basically plastic models that you put together to support a cistern-like retention pond underground.  On top of these modules you can then place sod, a parking lot, or whatever.  Interestingly, though, looking at the modules they very much resemble plastic pallets.

Q: So, our substitutionary mentality simply asks, couldn't plastic pallets be "repurposed" as stormwater storage modules?  OK, all you engineering-types who read this newsletter, is there any reason pallets can't be substituted in place of purpose-built stormwater storage modules?

Railroad Bridge Ties.  NOTE: Bridge ties are bigger and heavier than regular RR ties.  They are 10" x 10" x 10'. Truckload Quantities ONLY.   L: St Louis area   Email for Price and Ship Quote>>

repurposedSUGGESTION:  "Cattleman like the RR ties for fence posts.  The heavier bridge timbers would be ideal for building corrals for bison.  BTW, did you see the article in the Wall St Journal last week talking about the shortage of bison ranchers.  Heck, they could buy the fencing from you!" -Ralph Adams in North Dakota  READ WSJ Article>>
Bulk Bags.  Click Here for Sizes and Prices>>

repurposedCUSTOMER: A New Iberia, LA fire protection company purchased a bale of super sacks.  They're going to "repurpose" by slipping the sacks over their fire fighting equipment they sell before they ship it out.  The tough, durable super sack material is going to be an extra layer of protection for their equipment while it is in transit to their customers.  Pretty resourceful.  Debbie, we appreciate your order!

Tire Treads.  These are 30" x 186" long rubber treads.  L: Denver  Click Here for Tread Pricing>>

Q: What would be some good "repurposes" for these big, heavy rubber treads with great knobby lugs?  Submit Ideas>>
"Arborists could use these to repair large trees with split limbs/trunks. Perhaps would need them in an area devastated by bad weather (Ice & wind) for bulk usage." - Scott Creech

"Turf protectors for moving equipment over at landscaping & construction sites." David Wells

"Seems like the tire tread would make  a great instant pathway- almost looks like tiles- slipproof. I can see it as a walkway through a soggy garden with ferns and flowers." - Mikal

"These treads would offer great traction for our cattle on the scales or at the exit of our squeeze chutes where traction is always a problem." - Burt Allen

Aircraft Cable.  We just got in surplus (never been used) aircraft cable into 3 of our locations.  Diameters are 3/16" and 1/4".  Click Here for Pricing>>

repurposedSUGGESTION:  "Galvanized aircraft cable works awesome for grape trellis construction." - Bill Reilly in Napa, CA

Wire Panels.  L: Chi, Den  Click Here for Sizes and Prices>>

BEFORE: These are brand new, unused steel panels from a manufacturer who lost a contract supplying these safety panels that go on the outside of air conditioning units.  AFTER:  Natures Wood Products just bought a whole bunch of these panels to build big cages they use to hold their recycling materials...eg: foam, paper, plastic, etc...generated by their operation.

* A.C.E.  This acronym stands for AttributesCharacteristicsEngineering.  We use this acronym to tell you a little about a used material and what qualities it has in hopes that someone can find a "repurpose" for it.  Asked another way...what did the material do in it's 1st life that might help identify a very different, 2nd life for it?
